This potato gratin is the perfect side dish, featuring thinly sliced potatoes baked in a velvety egg and milk mixture, topped with melted Gruyère cheese for an irresistibly crispy golden crust.

Ingredients

  • 2.2 lbs (about 4–5 medium) potatoes
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 oz (about 1 cup) grated Gruyère cheese
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 pinch grated nutmeg
  • ½ tsp salt
  • Pepper to taste

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Wash and peel the potatoes, then slice them into thin rounds.
  3. Grease a baking dish with butter and arrange the potato slices inside.
  4. In a bowl, whisk the eggs with the milk, salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
  5. Pour the mixture over the potatoes, ensuring they are well coated.
