This potato gratin is the perfect side dish, featuring thinly sliced potatoes baked in a velvety egg and milk mixture, topped with melted Gruyère cheese for an irresistibly crispy golden crust.
Ingredients
- 2.2 lbs (about 4–5 medium) potatoes
- 2 cups whole milk
- 2 large eggs
- 3 oz (about 1 cup) grated Gruyère cheese
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 pinch grated nutmeg
- ½ tsp salt
- Pepper to taste
Method
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Wash and peel the potatoes, then slice them into thin rounds.
- Grease a baking dish with butter and arrange the potato slices inside.
- In a bowl, whisk the eggs with the milk, salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
- Pour the mixture over the potatoes, ensuring they are well coated.
- Sprinkle the grated Gruyère on top and dot with small pieces of butter.
