Tender celery and mushrooms, cooked to perfection with butter, lemon, and white wine. A simple yet elegant dish that pairs beautifully with a crisp white wine.

Ingredients

  • 2 celery stalks
  • 8 oz (250 g) mushrooms
  • 1 lemon
  • ½ cup dry white wine (or water)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 3 ½ tbsp (50 g) butter

Method

  • Trim the celery stalks, keeping the base and the tender white parts. Slice them into small, fry-like pieces. Rinse and drain well.
  • Heat a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the butter and let it melt, coating the bottom of the pot evenly.
  • Add the celery, season with salt and pepper, and pour in the white wine (or water). Cover and let simmer for 40 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, clean the mushrooms and slice them thinly.
  • After the celery has cooked for 40 minutes, add the mushrooms and lemon juice. Stir well, cover, and cook for another 10 to 15 minutes until everything is tender and flavorful.
  • Serve warm as a side dish or a light appetizer.
