This Creamy Curry Sauce is quick to prepare and adds a warm, spiced depth to your meals. Made with sautéed onions, butter, flour, and curry powder, it’s a velvety sauce that pairs wonderfully with rice, eggs, and vegetables.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp (30g) butter
  • 2 tbsp (30g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp curry powder (adjust to taste)
  • 2 cups (½ liter) cold water
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Method

  1. Peel and finely chop the onion.
  2. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until it becomes lightly golden.
  3. Stir in the flour and cook for a few seconds until the mixture bubbles.
  4. Gradually pour in the cold water, stirring continuously. Add the curry powder and mix well.
  5. Simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens (about 5 minutes).

💡 Pro Tip: If the sauce is too strong, stir in a few spoonfuls of heavy cream before serving to mellow the flavor.

💡 Serving Suggestions: This creamy curry sauce pairs beautifully with rice, boiled potatoes, hard-boiled eggs, and poached fish.
